Pan Clinical
The PAN-Clinical Program immerses participants in oncology clinical practice within a supervised learning environment. Through the Clinical Rotation or Clinical Shadowing experiences, participants deepen their understanding of cancer diagnosis, multidisciplinary decision-making, and patient-centered care. Guided by experienced clinicians, the component emphasizes professionalism, ethical conduct, and compassionate communication as essential foundations of effective and empathetic oncology practice.
Clinical Rotation
A comprehensive four-week clinical experience program designed to provide hands-on training in oncology clinical research, hereditary cancer genetics, and multidisciplinary patient care.
Activities
- Exposure to early-phase oncology clinical trials through participation in the evaluation and management of patients seen at the PanOncology Trials Oncologic Hospital outpatient clinic. Clinical activities include the review of laboratory data, tumor or blood biomarkers, and imaging results for patients undergoing evaluation or participating in clinical trials.
- Learn about the safety and efficacy of investigational treatments, including key clinical trial concepts such as maximum tolerated dose, dose-limiting toxicity, and randomization processes, among other foundational principles of clinical trial conduct.
- Participate in the evaluation and management of patients with hereditary and non-hereditary cancers, including assessment of family history and cancer risk. Activities include constructing family pedigrees, recognizing inheritance patterns, and understanding the use of genetic testing panels. Key genetic concepts such as penetrance, pathogenic variants, and variants of uncertain significance will be discussed.
- Integrating concepts of multidisciplinary care through participation in organ-specific tumor boards allows participants to evaluate complex oncology cases alongside experts in medical, surgical, radiology, radiation oncology, pathology, and molecular genetics.
